From a spark of inspiration to a global company producing the world's most award-winning electric hydrofoils, Flite has come a long way in a short time.

We got here by continuously refining and testing our design, with the ultimate experience in mind. After all, perfection is a state of mind, not a destination.

However, our beginnings were much more whimsical.

The idea for a motorized hydrofoil came on a windless day in 2016 as a “light bulb moment.”

Flite founder, former world record holder in kitesurfing, and entrepreneur David Trewern was at a kitefoiling event when he thought, “What if I didn't have to wait for the wind? What if I could just put an electric motor on my foil?”

That dream became a sketch, and the kitchen table became a workshop. The 3D printer ran at full speed, and late nights turned into early mornings. After dozens of prototypes, David took to the air for the first time.

“It was magical. The feeling of freedom was incredible.”

Today, Flite has over 330 authorized partners selling our boards, Fliteschools around the world, and offices in three countries: Australia, the Netherlands, and the United States. Our team focuses on combining electric vehicle and hydrofoil technology and includes naval architects, hydrodynamicists, product designers, and mechanical, electronic, and software engineers.

In 2021, Flite set world speed records for eFoiling and organized the first official international eFoiling race, the Flite Cup. In 2022, Flite ambassador Tom Court and big wave surfer Glyn Ovens used Flite eFoils to surf the biggest waves ever surfed (Nazaré) on an electric hydrofoil.

Flite currently holds 10 patents and 4 registered industrial designs, with more in the pipeline. We have launched our most advanced series yet – the Series 3, which is lighter, safer, more responsive, and more connected.
